OVERVIEW
The World Golf Hall of Fame honors the history of the game by
preserving the legacies of the world's greatest players and
contributors. Through revealing and inspirational storytelling, the
Hall of Fame honors its 130 HALL OF FAME MEMBERS, including
professional players, world-class amateurs and lifetime
contributors, and their finest moments in a game more than 550
years old.
The Hall of Fame's annual INDUCTION CEREMONY is the highlight of
each year when new members are welcomed into the Hall of Fame in an
internationally televised event that celebrates the game's rich
heritage and recognizes its greatest players and contributors.
Located at World Golf Village in St. Augustine, Fla., the Hall
of Fame serves as a steward of the game through its storytelling
and exhibitions featuring artifacts, works of art and photography
significant to the history of golf and its members.
A Global Institution
After years of refining its cause and determining its
role within the worldwide golf community, the World Golf Hall of
Fame opened in 1998.
Plans for the Hall of Fame originated with former PGA TOUR
Commissioner Deane Beman, whose vision focused on creating an
institution where the greatest players on the PGA TOUR would be
honored and celebrated for generations to come. Yet Beman's vision
became bigger over time, and the concept escalated into a worldwide
effort that would come to enjoy unprecedented collaboration among
the international golf community.
Today the World Golf Hall of Fame works closely with the world's
leading golf organizations, including the PGA TOUR, the LPGA, The
Masters, the USGA, the PGA of America, the PGA European Tour and
The R&A, along with the professional tours in Asia, Australia,
Japan and South Africa. Each of these organizations believe in the
Hall of Fame's mission and recognizes the importance of the legacy
and preserving golf's storied history through the celebration of
its greatest players and contributors.
""I have served as Global Ambassador for the World
Golf Hall of Fame for more than seven years now and trust
wholeheartedly in its dedication to the mission of honoring the
true greats of the game from all over the world. Through
fascinating exhibitions and interactive experiences, guests touring
the Hall of Fame can get an understanding of the rich history of
the game and its heroes. It is an important institution for the
game of golf on a global scale." -Gary Player (Class of 1974)
