National Golf Day: May 1, 2019 in Washington, D.C.

National Golf Day will be held Wednesday, May 1 on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. The event celebrates the game's $84.1 billion economy, $4 billion annual charitable impact and many environmental and fitness benefits. Industry leaders will meet with Members of Congress, the Executive Branch and federal agencies on Capitol Hill to discuss golf's 15,000-plus diverse businesses, two million employees, tax revenue creation and tourism value.

"Golf plays a substantial role in stimulating the American economy, as the industry impacts $58.7 billion in annual wage income," says Steve Mona, Executive Director, WE ARE GOLF. "In addition to nearly 24 million U.S. golfers, a record-high 14.9 million are 'very interested' in playing the game, further cementing why it is vital to advocate on behalf of golf's interests with our country's lawmakers."

Last year's event was the most successful to date. The public relations and social media campaign outreach exceeded 2017 numbers. A few highlights include:

 #NGD18 Campaign

  • Social campaign exceeded more than 77.8 million impressions (72 million in 2017; 52 million in 2016) including 200,000 interactions, representing a 148 percent increase from 2017
  • 11.4 million Twitter and Facebook unique accounts reached
  • #NGD18 was a global trending topic on Twitter on April 25, 2018 (fourth year in a row)
  • 10% increase in new website visitors vs. 2017
  • Nearly 102,000 WE ARE GOLF page views in May 2018

Organizations who participated include the Club Managers Association of America, Golf Course Superintendents Association of America, Ladies Professional Golf Association, National Alliance for Accessible Golf, National Golf Course Owners Association, PGA of America, PGA TOUR, United States Golf Association, United States Golf Manufacturers Council, World Golf Foundation and others.
